NAYDSA came into existence in 2008 after the Nigerian Union South Africa (NUSA) General Election held at the Nigeria Consulate Office, Johannesburg in 2007, where Prince Adedapo Adesanmi, an aspirant, lost the Secretaryship position to an Igbo man. The outcome gave the Yorubas an eye-opener as to the reason to be united and form an umbrella Yoruba Association.
Hon. Julius Adedeji brought the idea to Nelspruit where he was residing and discussed it with some prominent Yoruba in Nelspruit and its environs, working tirelessly — physically and financially — selling the idea of coming together, as one Yoruba adage says: "a i rin po omo ejo ni n je ejo ni'ya, bi oka ba siwaju, ki paramole tele ki ejola naa ma wo bo lehin, ko si baba eni to maa duro."
His efforts led to the first meeting on the 3rd of February 2008 in Kabokweni with over 100 Yorubas in attendance. The Association was registered in Nelspruit in 2008. The formation led to inter-provinces meetings with Dr. Adegboye, Prince Adedapo Adesanmi, Alhaja Animashaun, Baba Omoyajowo, and others.
Prince Samuel Adegboyega Hastrup was the first Nelspruit Chapter president, followed by Prince Victor Olusola Ayanfe-Oyebanjo, before the constitution was reviewed to change the head of chapters to chairman for simplicity.
Nelspruit Chapter has hosted many national programmes and has equally produced various National Executives, including National President, General Secretary, and Youth leaders, to mention but a few.
